Edith Johnson, age 92, of Middletown, Ohio passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016. Edith was born in Byrnside, West Virginia on January 21, 1924 to the late Thomas and Harriet Thornton. She was a member of the Cincinnati Primitive Baptist Church.
Edith was a great mom who was always younger than her age with a feisty personality. She was a wonderful seamstress and made beautiful quilts. For a time, she worked at Montgomery Ward in Middletown. Edith will be dearly missed by her loving family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Willard Johnson; sons-in-law, James Mendel and Phil Layer and 13 brothers and sisters. Edith will be missed by her loving daughters, Sandy Mendel and Sharon Layer; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) Pascua, Joe (Deanna) Mendel, Sarah Mendel, Catherine Mendel, Michael (Renae) Layer and Melanie (Mike) Danber; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Howard Thornton and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, Pastor Lasserre Bradley, Jr., officiating. Burial will be held Thursday at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Hurricane, WV.
