He served 20 years in the US Air Force including special duty in Saudi Arabia during the Khobar Tower Bombing, he was head of security during the Baltic Peace Talks at WPAFB and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. He was the founder of Smith & Sons Seal-coating & Striping Inc. which he operated for 20 years. Delmer was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and sang in multiple churches as a member of the gospel groups New Life and Second Wind.
Del's highest priority was ensuring his family was endowed with a passion for serving the Lord. He gave his life to God and lived each day in honor to Him.
He was preceded in death by his father Delmer Smith. He is survived by his wife of 36 years who he met in Germany, Adina (Garrison) Smith, his children, Lisa Marie (Dan) Sowards, Zachary Del (Sarah) Smith, Caleb Joshua (Erica) Smith, Josiah Garrison Smith (his fiancé Taylor Hamilton); his grandchildren, Abby, Hutson, Lucy, Zeke, Charlotte, Brooke, Boaz, Azariah, Teddy, and baby Smith; his mother, Wanda Faye Smith; his brother, Mike (Marty) Smith and his sister, Lisa (Van) Woodruff.
Funeral Services are 11 am Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church 2901 Galewood St Kettering, OH with Pastor Charles Webb officiating. Burial will be in Germantown Union Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Monday at the church. Family visitation will begin at 10 am on Tuesday.
