Benjamin Howard Thornton, age 62, of Franklin, Ohio passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at UC Hospital Clifton after a long illness. Ben was born in Middletown, OH on February 15, 1962 to the late Howard and Kathleen (Warren) Thornton. Ben lived most of his life in Franklin but also resided in California and Oklahoma.
Ben was a graduate of Franklin High School class of 1980 and was a State Certified Optician working with Harper's Point Eye Associates, Pearle Vision and LensCrafters for over 30 years and retired in 2022. He had a way with customers that kept them returning to only work with him and won many awards. He volunteered his skills to work with senior nursing home residents and disaster relief victims in Oklahoma and California.
Ben was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Weaver. He is survived by his brother, Dwayne Thornton (Paula), his two sisters, Fran Lowry (Mike) and Robin Thornton. As well as many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Ben loved and supported all his family, but was especially close to niece Lindsay and nephew Nick.
One of Ben’s favorite hobbies was fishing, highlighted by annual family trips to Coldwater, Michigan. Family members could count on him to find the best fishing spots to bring in lots of crappie, blue gill, and bass. These trips were always followed by family fish fries in the fall.
Ben loved football season and watching sports with family in particular the Bengals and the Reds.
