Alvina was born on November 12th, 1943 in Sumas, Washington to David and Dorothy Struiksma. Her family moved various places growing up, and finally resided in southern California where she grew up with her brother Arie and graduated from Valley Christian High School. Following graduation she worked at a telephone company for a time until she met her husband, Harry Boersma, on a blind date where they ended up going to a church potluck together. After a short time dating, they were married October 30, 1964 at First Christian Reformed Church in Chino. Harry was a dairyman who worked wholeheartedly on his farm until his death in 1987. Alvina loved being a house wife and caring for her family. Her last years were spent in Centerville, OH to be near her children.
Alvina loved Jesus deeply and had a relationship with Him since she was young. She was passionate about studying the Word of God and knowing Him intimately. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a very generous and hospitable woman who opened her home to family and friends for conversation, much laughter, games, coffee/tea, and of course something sweet to go with it. Alvina was as a life-time member at First United Reformed Church of Chino, CA, where she was quick to serve others. She enjoyed volunteering in the nursery so young mothers could study the Bible and getting food ready in the church kitchen for grieving families at funerals. Alvina loved being a wife and mother and was always involved in her kids' lives. She loved serving as a room mom in her kids' elementary classes as well as being active in the Mother's Club at Ontario Christian School where all her children attended school and graduated. Alvina valued relationships with people more than money or things. Friends and family were never interruptions, but always welcome opportunities.
She is survived by her five children: Brian (Kristi) Boersma of Nipomo; CA, Brenda (Dan) Stauffer of Phoenix, AZ; Doug (Annette) Boersma of Lynden, WA; Randy (Holly) Boersma of Lima, OH; Joy (Chris) Konop of Springboro, OH; grandchildren Amy (David) Edwards, Michael Stauffer, Jonathan Stauffer, Julia Boersma, Austin Boersma, Lauren Boersma, Caroline Boersma, Alexis (Josh) Chapman, Alyssa Boersma, Annika Boersma, Annaliese Boersma, Aliana Boersma, Kaitlyn Konop, Joshua Konop, and Matthew Konop; great-granddaughter Ruth Edwards. She was preceded to heaven by her parents David and Dorothy, older brother Arie, and her beloved husband Harry. Alvina's fun loving, caring, and generous ways will be greatly missed by those who knew her. We rejoice that she is now in the Lord's presence, and someday we will be together again.
