He was born on August 14, 1930 in Franklin, the son of Hubert M. and Avis (Gillett) Worden. He graduated from Franklin Central School in 1947.
Paul served in the US Army during the Korean War (1951-1953) and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
On September 25, 1954 he married Joyce Woodard in the Franklin Methodist Church. He then accepted a 4 year apprenticeship at Bendix Corporation in Sidney, ultimately becoming employed as a supervisor in the Experimental Department for 37 years. He retired from Bendix in 1989.
Paul was a member of the Ouleout Valley Cemetery Association Board, on which he served as President and at present time, Vice President. He was also on the Franklin Central School Board from 1969-1976, serving one year as Board President. After the school fire in March 1969, he spent many days working to rebuild the school. He was a Cub Master for Cub Scouts for many years.
Paul was a 65 year member of the Franklin Fire Department, for which he served 26 years as First Assistant and 4 years as Chief. He presently served as President. For several years, he was a member of the Franklin Emergency Squad. He was also a Fire Commissioner for the Franklin-Treadwell district.
He was a 62 year member of the Franklin American Legion Post #1689 and served as a past Commander.
Paul was a lifetime member of the Catskill Engine and Machinery Club. He enjoyed taking antique engines to the Walton Fair each year with his sons. He was also a lifetime member of the Ouleout Valley Gun Club.
Paul was a dedicated and loving family man who loved his children and grandchildren. He never missed any of their ball games or other school activities.
In 1953, the family bought land on Goodyear Lake and built a camp. The entire family enjoyed many picnics, and swimming, boating and fishing activities on the lake.
Paul was an avid Yankees fan and a bowler in his youth.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, of 61 years; his children, Tom & Linda Worden, Scott and Tina Worden, Christopher and Katrina Worden, and Susan and Matthew Campbell; grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan and his wife Kathryn, Lindsay, Travis, Miranda, Christina, Meghan, Collin, and twins Marissa and Kayla; great grandchildren, CJ and Dominic; and a brother, Wayne Worden.
He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Jane Hoffman, Fran Hall and Sue Ellen Worden; and 4 brothers, Cecil, Roland, Richard and Lee Worden.
Friends may call on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main Street, Franklin at which time the family will be in attendance.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11 am at the Franklin United Methodist Church, 465 Main Street, Franklin, with Rev. Elliott Oakes officiating.
Burial with full military honors will take place at a later date in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
