He was born in Long Island City, NY, son of the late Charles and Angela Weisgerber, and was the husband of the late Edith Weisgerber, who predeceased him in 1995.
Wally, a Master Mason who trusted in Christ for his salvation, was a WW2 naval veteran, having served in the Silent Service aboard the USS Muskallunge (SS262) and was aboard her when she had the privilege of being chosen to be in Tokyo Harbor for the official surrender of the Japanese.
Wally was a bookkeeper by trade. He graduated from Bentley College with a certificate in accounting. He was employed by Houghton Mifflin Company, Cumberland Farms, Roxbury Carpet Company, Fitts Insurance Agency, and Big W Bus Lines.
As an active member of the Masonic Fraternity, Wally was Past Master of Alpha Lodge, Framingham, Past High Priest of Concord Royal Arch Chapter, Framingham, Past Illustrious Master of Cryptic Council, Newtonville, Past Commander of Sir Galahad-Natick Commandery, Natick, Past Grand Commander of the Knights Templar of MA/RI, a member of Aleppo Shrine, Past Patron of Orient Chapter No. 31, OES, Framingham, and Past Grand Warder and Past Grand Patron of the Order of Eastern Star in MA. Other awards of distinction were also presented to him for his service to these fraternities.
` Wally was an avid sports fan and enjoyed participating as well as watching all sports. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by daughter Lynn Drake and her husband Chester of Franklin, MA, daughter June Jones and her husband Philip of Hillsdale, NJ. He is also survived by four grandsons:
Christopher Drake and his wife Michelle, Bryan Drake and his wife Wendy, Kevin Jones and Brendan Jones, as well as four great grandchildren, Jonathan, Kailey, Colin, and Emma Drake. He is also survived by sister-in-law Theresa Weisgerber of New York and 2 nephews and 1 niece.
Friends may call at MetroWest, Wadsworth-Chiappini Funeral Home, 318 Union Ave. Framingham, MA on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 from 4-8 PM. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 PM.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 11AM from the First United Methodist Church 360 Water Street, Framingham, MA where Wally worshipped for over 50 years. The Rev. Sandra J. Bonnette-Kim will officiate. Burial will be Monday at 10AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
