Ron grew up in Haxtun, Colorado, enjoying the wonderful freedom small town life can offer. He participated in many music activities and was an avid Junior League baseball player and all-around baseball enthusiast.
Upon graduation from Haxtun High School, he attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he received a BA in English and Speech, and an MA in counseling. While in college Ron met Kay Stellmaker and they were married in 1961.
Ron taught two years in New Raymer School District before he and Kay headed to Colorado Springs where he worked as a classroom teacher and high school counselor for 31 years in Widefield School District 3.
Ron loved working with young people and being the "Voice of Widefield" at sporting events. Loved by all, the family joked he couldn't get in and out of any store in town without stopping to talk with at least three former students.
Ron retired from education in 1993. After retiring, Ron and Kay loved to spend time antiquing, collecting books, and going to many musical venues throughout the country.
Ron loved people and enjoyed telling jokes and stories of his escapades growing up in a small town. Ron was most proud of his two children and two grandchildren. He never missed a game, a concert, or a social event they were involved with. Ron's love of music and sports, particularly baseball, stayed with him throughout his life.
Ron is survived by his wife, Kay; his daughter Jill (Dan) Lykins; his son, Todd Pope, and two grandchildren, Grant and Noah Lykins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at Pikes Peak Christian Church, 4955 Bradley Road, Security, Colorado.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ron's name to Faith Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or Suncrest Hospice.
