Dear Robert,
It has been two years but it feels like two minutes since you left. Somehow life continues on, but not in same direction we had planned. Your children have been rocks and you would be proud. Bob is following your path as a soldier. Matt graduates Dec. 4th and will soon begin his new career. He told me the other day that were times he wished he had stayed in the Air Force. You and your sons will always be bonded that way and soldiers at heart. Jenny and Laura have found their places in this world and will continue to try and make you proud. I know we had our moments, but the good times greatly outnumbered them. I miss our walks and long drives into the mountains. I miss coming home from work and finding you on the front porch waiting for me. I miss the flowers you would buy me and those you would add to the cart when we were shopping with that ever so slight grin. I miss touching you and smelling you. My prayer is that your are on that never ending cattle drive with all those who have gone before you. I was never good at writing my thoughts down like you were and find it hard to express myself through words. I guess what I want to say is that I miss you and will love you forever. I am not sure why God planned it this way, but I have to trust we will see each other again.

Two years have gone by but it seems like yesterday. It doesn't seem so long ago. Time is funny that way. Daddy and I went to the cemetary Thanksgiving afternoon. Jeff and Daddy have done a lot of work there. Jeff is helping try to finish what Daddy and you started. The only place on the ranch that has green grass is in front of your headstone. But you know that. I felt you by me the night I wrecked my truck during that snowstorm last December. Some people don't believe me. I don't care. I know in my heart that you riding that ride with me! It has been one month since you left this world to cross over the Rainbow Bridge.  I know you were met there by Grandpa and Grandpa Jolly and Grandma was holding Toni Jean in her arms. I see Grandpa shaking your hand. I see Grandma giving Toni Jean to Grandpa to hold. I see Grandma stretching up to give you a hug and a kiss on your cheek. I see Grandma taking Toni Jean from Grandpa and holding her out for you to take in your arms. I see that big grin on your face!  My God, how happy you must be!  What a special moment for you!  I wish I could have told you in person how much I love you and how proud I am of you. I can only say it to you now and pray you know. You have been my big brother since the day I was born 55 years ago. I look at pictures of us when we were young and I remember how much you taught me. You made me a tom-boy. I still hate to wear dresses! You taught me to ride horses. I remember when T.O. and I were on the corral fence when you decided to show us how to rope a calf. The calf stopped. The horse stopped. But you kept going. Right over the horse's head. You broke your arm. We walked you back to the house with you holding your arm. You never cried. Freaked out Mom, though. I remember you teaching Buck how to open gates so you didn't have to get off him to open them. He would get out but never left the yard. You took me to the area dances. I would always drive us home but I didn't care. Didn't matter that I wasn't old enough to drive. After you graduated and I was in high school taking trig and algebra, one of our teachers asked why I wasn't as good as you were. It came so easy for you.  I remember when you were in grade school. You would come home and start your homework. I would sit by you learning my abc's.  I remember at the beginning of summer you would get a new blue straw cowboy hat. I would get a red one. I have so many memories and I wait for the day that I can sit with you and you can teach me more. I look forward to the day I can talk to you. The other day I was talking about you to Jim and Creedence came on the radio singing "Who'll Stop The Rain?". That song always reminded you of me. It was one of your first 8 track tapes and you played it over and over again. My one and only Big Brother - I will love you forever and ever. Your Sis, Jane

You was my Hero from day one of my life. Words don't need to be spoken, you know what you meant to me and how much I love you. One day I will stand beside you and you will say, Do you want some candy little sister? and a freckle face red headed girl is going to smile up at you and say yes I do. Love you forever... Liz

The older I get the more I find you in me daddy, you taught me to have strong moral values, to face challenges, and most of all to be strong will. My daddy wasn't the father to catch the ball with but was the dad to Cowboy up with, to work in the hay fields with, or even better yet to watch a John Wayne Movie with. He was my Soilder, my Cowboy, my Hero. I wasn't the easiet child, but my daddy stood by my side: without words spoken I knew he loved me..He walked me down the isle, he smiled liked there was no tomorrow holding onto his grandson, he loved bugging his grandaughters,,, So many plans made and time swept away, so these last four months will be cherished forever, I can only say I am sorry for not bringing your family home sooner. These Memeories I have are everlasting and Daddy I Love You.. Jennifer

Daddy,
     What to say, how to say it, how can this even be happening? I am sad, angry, and lost. So much we had but there was so much left to do. Growing up you and mom were my entire life. Even now you both are a major part of my present and my future.
     I'm lost, what now? Who will one day walk me down the aisle? Who will be there when I get my doctoate? Who will be standing behind me to give me a kick when I get off track? Who will I have in my corner no matter what? We should have had decades left!
      I always thought that if you knew enough, wanted it enough, worked hard enough you could do almost anything. The fact is no matter we did that night it wasn't enough dad. No matter what we couldn't save you. Medicine failed, I failed, I'm sorry daddy.
     It's unfair that life is going on, it's wrong that the sun rises, it's wrong that Christmas is coming without you. I miss you.
     I know your in heaven with TJ, I know that your teaching her about horses and camping. Dad remember she is a little girl and yes you have to have tea parties as well! Play nice or I'll tell mom!

My sweet sister, I am so sorry for the pain you are in right now....there are no words to express how much I wish this was not happening to you.  I loved what your daughter Laura wrote......that was touching.  I am so sorry I cannot be with you but please know that your brothers and sister are holding you close in our hearts and praying you through this agonizing time.  I love you very much Donna....I know it is not up to us to question God but he must have needed another (soldier) angel.....
