Through a long fight with cancer Pat maintained a positive attitude, serving as an inspiration to her family and a wide circle of neighbors and friends.
Pat started her career as a graphic designer for area businesses. She was an accomplished artist in a variety of styles and disciplines. In later years she focused on wood carvings.
Her talents included singing, joining groups including Sweet Adelines, Song Spinners and Harmonizers. One of her favorite songs was "O Holy Night" which she often sang solo at Christmas.
She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. She lived on the same block in Widefield for 56 years.
She was born Jan. 21, 1941 in Greeley, Colo., to Ben and Golda Slater. The family spent summers at national parks including Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Glacier and Rocky Mountain, where her father was a summer ranger.
She married Norman Lofgren in Greeley in 1960. The couple had three children, Lonnie, Leon and Loretta.
In 1984 she married John Smith in Security.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and brother, Roy Slater.
Survivors include children Lonnie (Judy) Lofgren, Tucson, Ariz.; Leon (Diane) Lofgren, Orlando, Fla.; Loretta Acker, Rock Hill, S.C.; and Jonna Smith, Widefield; sisters Cher Barlevi, Ojai, Calif.; Mary Kay (Merle) Baranczyk, Salida; grandchildren Ben Lofgren, Wes Lofgren, Leon Lofgren Jr., Autumn Lofgren, Christian Acker, Justin Acker, Courtney Acker, Scott Coplan, Jason Coplan; great grandchildren Alana Coplan and T Coplan.
Services were Dec. 21 at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, Pastor Terri Lynn Russ officiating. Final resting place: Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
