Olwyn married Milton McGowan on May 12, 1945 in Bovey Tracey, Devon, England. She came to America, a War Bride, on a military transport ship. Arriving at Ellis Island at the age of 18, she made the journey to the state of Texas to meet her husband and his family. She became an American citizen in 1973, but she was British through and through.
Olwyn was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; son, Robert; mother, Winnifred; and brothers Raymond and David. She is survived by her children, Deborah, Michael and Roger McGowan, Judy Thompson and Donna Luciani; grandchildren, Jennifer Williams, Abby Bolton, Brandon McGowan (Cora), Brian Luciani and Christopher Luciani (Emma); great grandchildren, Harrison, Regan, Josi, Lillian, Isla, and Sophia.She is also survived by two brothers, Robert and Phillip Manley and a sister, Faye Gribble.
Olwyn and her husband, Milton owned several restaurants in the Colorado Springs and Fountain areas. She was a member of St. Raphael Episcopal Church, where she was involved with the Women’s Group for many years. She did charity work with her church, Care and Share and Walt Fortman Center. Olwyn served the hungry and needy in the Fountain Valley area while running the Food Pantry at St. Raphael Episcopal Church.
Her American family gave her the name Pat when she arrived, as Olwyn didn’t sound southern. From then on, all who knew her, called her Pat. She was “Granny” to the grandchildren and she absolutely loved being their “Granny”, they were all the apple of her eye. She was a big part of their lives.
A celebration of Olwyn’s life will be on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Dove Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 US Hwy 85-87, Fountain, Colorado. Visitation from 5:00–6:00pm. Funeral Services to follow at 6:00 pm, with a reception following the services.
