Neil W. Jones passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in his home in Colorado on March 7, 2025. Services with military honors will be scheduled for July 5, 2025, at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO. Immediately following the service, Neil's family will be gathering with friends for a Celebration of life at the First United Methodist Church of Fountain Colorado.
Neil is survived by his children, David (Lucia) Jones, Terri (Tim) Lee, and Sharon (Bob) Pentland. He was a grandfather to Tim Lee, Jr., Kristal Gurtis, Matthew Jones, Michael Jones, and Ian Jones. He was the great-grandfather to Gavin Gurtis, Zach Kesler, Brandon Lee and Lucas Lee.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Zella Jones as well as his siblings: Robert Jones, Clinton Jones, Ervin Jones, Kenneth Jones and Ruby Jones (Luetjen).
Born on a farm in Winterset Iowa, raised by his aunt Mary Jones-Ekern, in Benson Minnesota, Neil had humble beginnings but lived a full, adventurous life. He was a farm boy, cowboy, handyman, mechanic and Army veteran. His 22 years in the military lead him to places like Korea, Africa, Norway, Germany, etc. While in the army, Neil received numerous ribbons and medals to include the meritorious service medal. After retiring from the military as a SFC, he worked for Van Gas, volunteered at the Fountain Fire Department and retired from School District #8. He loved gardening, reading Zane Grey books, watching western movies and listening to country music. He was a fan of John Wayne, Hank Williams and all things football. Go Broncos!
Neil will be remembered for his love of First United Methodist Church, family and neighbors. He enjoyed Friday night dinners at the church and talking with friends about Broncos football. A beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor and friend. Neil Jones leaves a legacy of always striving to do a better job than expected, being helpful to those around him and taking care of himself / living independently.
