friends. He was as comfortable as he could be, with his favorite music playing, stories
about his life being told along with jokes that he tiredly smiled at.
Justin grew up in Riverside, RI. graduating from East Providence High School in 1998,
and briefly attending Shoreline Community College (WA). Justin served 16 years in the
United States Army, working on the construction of the Lewis and Clark trail in Oregon,
completing 4 tours in Afghanistan, retiring as a Staff Sergeant, and having been awarded
many medals including, most notably, his Purple Heart.
After retiring, Justin became a proud member of Colorado Springs CVMA, who became
a second family to him. They treated him with kindness, love, and unconditional support.
Justin was known by many names (Mega Man and Skeemer) but no matter the name, he
was loved very deeply by all who knew him. He was a great cook, an amazing musician,
and a Harley Davidson enthusiast. Justin loved Phish, Sublime, Wu Tang Clan and reggae
music and never missed an opportunity to go to a concert. He touched many lives and
was known as a generous and loyal friend, bad*ss brother, devoted son, and doting father.
Justin is survived by his mother, Maggie Rook, his father, Thomas Costa, daughters
Skylar and Ryalyn Rook, sisters Brittany and Julia Flynn, and half sister Courtney
Carvahlo, his Aunt Kathleen (Rook) and Uncle Kevin Mullany, cousins Courtney, Maura
and Ashley Rook, Sean and Erin Mullany, two nieces, one nephew, and his second
cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Uncle John R. Rook, his dog
Latte, and other beloved friends and family.
There will be a service celebrating his life at the American Legion. Post 38, 6685
