Jim Gum was born on December 24, 1930 in Colorado Springs. His parents were John Arnold Gum and Myra Louise Keaton. He has one sister Phyllis Dalton. He was twice divorced and had five children, Beva, Jay A, Guy, Ellen and Jennifer.
He was a veteran, serving in the National Guard in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He always worked with horses and was a Ferrier by trade. He traveled all over Colorado working and meeting new people. He loved working with horses. He loved a good John Wayne movie, Louis L’amor books, and National Geographic magazine. He also loved to write poetry and read cowboy poetry written by Waddie Mitchell or Baxter Black.
He is survived by his sister Phyllis Dalton and four of his five children: Jay A Gum and his Wife Candy Gum and their three boys, Matt, Jake and Tyler, Guy Gum, Ellen Daigneault and her husband Joshua Eiler and their 5 children: Elisha, Noah, Jude, Selah, and Caleb, and Jennifer Gum and her husband Mathew Jones and their 3 children, Dominic, Olivia and Carter. He also has three great grandchildren.
Jim Gum was a mystery to most, but most of all a mystery to his family.
