Erika-
On behalf of my family and me, we want you to know that you are not alone in this difficult time.  The Lord always knows what he is doing when our loved one leaves us. 

I so remember all of the phone conversations I had with you and Herman over the years.   Whenever I’d call and if Herman answered the phone, he would shout out to you and say, “ Hey!! It’s Candy from California!”  He and I would talk about everything from the weather to politics to family. 

What really is a very fond memory for me was when you and Herman came to Oxnard ( CA) back in the ‘60’s for a funeral. While here, you and Herman took me with you to the military commissary to pick up some groceries, etc.  While you both were shopping, I wandered over to the section of the store that sold records and albums. At that time, Diana Ross and the Supremes had just released their hit
album “The Supremes:Where Did  Our Love Go?”  I begged you both to buy me that album and you did!! I can’t tell you how many times over the years I played and sang to that album.  Your $1.97 was well spent!!  I also will never forget the week I spent with you in Colorado at your home and Herman was so excited to show me around-taking me to Denver and seeing all the sights. I had a great time!  

So, as time passes, we will never forget the memories and times we all shared and spent with Herman.  He will truly, truly be missed. May he rest in Heavenly light!

We thank you for your many years of  ardent love, we thank you for your faithful commitment to serving others through your dedication to wear the uniform and pledge allegiance to this country. We were always proud of you, and celebrated with you on every promotion. You earned the stripes, the accolades of many throughout your storied  Army career. But, this promotion is your "Grandest" by far, as you prepare to receive your  Golden Crown and Wings!
