Harvey passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital on September 6, 2018. He was born in West Mineral, Kansas to Lenzero D. and Myrtle May Hoffman. When Harvey was young, his parents separated and his mother moved the family to Denver. In 1945 he moved to Vallejo, California to live with his sister, Carolyn, and her husband, Harold Pottorf. In 1946 they moved to Anchorage, Alaska where they lived for the next three years.
In 1950 Harvey enlisted in the Air Force and over the next three years, was stationed in Korea and then Wiesbaden, Germany. After completing his military service, he returned to Denver and went to work for Mountain Bell Telephone Company. Harvey met his future wife Carolyn Verbeek at Beth Eden Baptist Church in Denver, and they were married in 1954. He transferred to Colorado Springs in 1957. Their son, Paul, was born on July 20, 1957, and their daughter, Paula, was born on May 16, 1960. Harvey retired from the telephone company after working for thirty years in the engineering department.
Harvey was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Carolyn, and brother Earl. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, sister, Myrilla Getz, his son, Paul (Elaine), daughter, Paula Smith (Mark), and two granddaughters, Rachael Verhoeff (Kenton) and Jenny Smith.
Visitation - Tuesday, September 18th, from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 South US Highway 85/87 in Fountain.
Burial - Thursday, September 20th, at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway in Colorado Springs.
Celebration of Life - September 20th, at noon at Pikes Peak Park Baptist Church, 3725 El Morro Road in Colorado Springs.
