After high school, George joined the Army at the age of 18. He served a total of 21 years, including 2 tours in Vietnam. The family also traveled to Germany and Japan during George's military career. He retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class. While he was stationed in France in 1954 he met Marie-Madeleine at the bumper cars during a festival. They married in France in 1956 and soon after, returned to the United States. Over the next few years, they were blessed with three children.
After retirement from the military he embarked on a new career path selling insurance. He sold insurance in Colorado as well as in Germany.
The family travelled back to France in 2006 to celebrate George and Marie's 50th wedding anniversary. They renewed their vows in the same church they were originally married in. George and Marie continued trips back to France at least twice a year to visit relatives. The Green family often took trips together, including a surprise trip to The Black Hills in South Dakota for George's 80th birthday. Other notable trips they took; Hawaii, Palm Springs, French Riviera, Germany, Vietnam, Jerusalem, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Holland, Sweden, England, and Italy. Family vacations were always full of laughter and good times.
George loved to work in his garden, taking time to stop and smell the roses! He was proud of yard, he spent many hours tending to his flowers. He also loved reading, the local library gave him a lifetime membership card. He passed his love of reading to his 3 children. George and Marie would take daily walks around the Fountain Creek Nature Center, spotting pelicans, deer, turkey, and other wildlife. George also liked making things with his hands, many family members were recipients of his birdhouses.
George was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie, his sister Pat Shilt, his son Michael (Tuyet) Green, daughter Christine (Jay) Eppenbaugh, daughter Amy (David) Watson, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.
George was a loving husband, a great dad, and an even better Pepe!
