Woody was born on 18 December 1942 in Jefferson, Missouri and on 1 December 1962 he married Marion Ann Shaw of England.
Woody served honorably in the United States Army for more than 27 years achieving the rank of Command Sergeant Major with assignments in Europe, Korea, and multiple combat duty tours in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star and Vietnam Cross for Gallantry and was a graduate of the Sergeant Major’s Academy, Class 20. He retired from the Army as a CSM for the 124th Signal Battalion at Fort Carson, Colorado on 31 May 1988. Woody was always known as a soldier’s soldier.
Woody is survived by his wife Marion and children Melanie, Tina, Woody III and was preceded in death by his daughter Tricia; He is also survived by his two son-in-laws, daughter-in-law, 5 grand-children and 5 great grand-children.
A wake and viewing will be held on 10 February from 5pm – 9pm and memorial service on 11 February 2012 at 10am at the Dove-Witt Family Mortuary Fountain, Colorado. Burial and military honors will follow service at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
