Garrett Edward Meredith, age 25 of Colorado Springs, was born on February 27th, 1996 in Arlington, Texas. He was a military brat, loving husband, wonderful son, dedicated doggie dad, and infantryman who passed away in his home on Monday, May 24th, 2021.
Garrett and his parents, James and Molly Meredith, spent most of their time traveling the world together as his father served his country. They went to Fort Carson, CO, Schweinfurt, Germany, Fort Lewis, WA, Fort Drum, NY, and Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Garrett was as passionate about military and brotherhood as his parents raised him to be.
SPC Meredith, the Misfit and the Wildboy, served his country in the United States Army from 2015-2019 as a part of 2-12 4th Infantry Division. He served two tours in Afghanistan, one in Helmand Province and the other in Kandahar Province. After serving his country proudly, Garrett fought a long battle on the home-front with post-traumatic stress disorder. Unfortunately, this time, the pain was too difficult to bear and he succumbed to the impacts of this disorder.
He knew he had found the one, Diana Meredith, from the moment he met her. They began dating December 16th, 2011 and he asked her out during her birthday party with a giant Hershey Kiss. They had a love so passionate that they fought to be together despite every circumstance. They married January 13th, 2017, in Colorado Springs, CO, and had a beautiful life together. They were high school sweet hearts of 10 years and always felt as young as the day they met each other, at the ages of 14 and 15 years old. His biggest joy was going beyond limits for his wife and two dogs, Tucker and Carson.
His spirit lives on through his wife Diana Meredith, his parents James and Molly Meredith, his in-laws, Catherine Lehnert and Ron Dotson, as well as Jessica and Ronnie Dotson. He was loved by so many, including the Baker Boys, the Core 4, Carson and Tucker, the Sackets Harbor Community, among countless others. We will miss him to no end.
Garrett’s greatest passions were his beard, his bald spot, Copenhagen wintergreen, and Southern Comfort. He enjoyed taking road trips, grilling on the weekends, camping, and shooting at beer cans. He was always checking in on others and had a laugh so contagious that it would make everyone else forget their worries. He truly had a powerful impact on every person he encountered.
Garrett Meredith’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 28th at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary in Fountain, Colorado, with calling hours from 2-4 pm, and the service following immediately after. A service with full military honors will be held in Sackets Harbor, NY at a date to be determined.
Per his request, in lieu of flowers, Garrett Meredith wishes to have donations sent to the 22 a Day Military Veteran Project: https://www.militaryveteranproject.org
Garrett wore a Til Valhalla Project Memorial Band every day, which are available for purchase here: MEMORIAL BANDS – Til Valhalla Project
Garrett will be missed and loved by so many, and as he always said “We walk under the same sun, and we sleep under the same moon”. Signing off, Baker Out.
