DeWayne was born and raised in Chadron, NE. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Neese of 57 years; their three children: Shauna Struessel and her husband, Scott, of Colorado Springs; Amanda Witt and her partner, Mark of Durango, CO; Michael Asberry and his partner, Crystal of Colorado Springs, and two sisters-in-law: Jeanie Sedivy and her husband Warren of NE, and Sherry Neese of AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters. He had several grandchildren whom he adored. His funeral request was for Sloan to sing, Dodge to give a eulogy, and Scott to preach his funeral service. He had several nieces and nephews including Angie Neese and Miles Neese of AZ, David Allgood of Security, CO, Johnna Conatser of TX, Anne Bourne and Ty Bourne of NE, and their respective spouses.
He was a graduate of Ozark Christian College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sacred Literature and a graduate of Dallas Mortuary and Funeral Service where he was licensed in Texas and nationally as a funeral director and embalmer. He had several occupations in his life including professional chef, fire fighter, probation officer, minister, funeral director and embalmer, but most importantly he was a circuit rider for Jesus. His ministries included churches in Minatare, NE, Bayard, NE, Diamond, MO, Emmetsburg, IA, Springfield, MO, and Colorado Springs, CO; and ultimately he and Sharon founded Dove Witt Family Mortuary as a mission where they provided free grief counseling to the entire community.
He was a man who avidly chased Jesus. He loved America, joining the army after the Cuban Missile Crisis; horse riding, fly fishing, hunting, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and snuggling with his puppies. He loved the western attire and the cowboy hats he most frequently wore. Aside from Christ, his most abiding love was for Sharon. Every day it was his mission to make her smile. Every Christmas Eve for 57 years, he made sure she had a bottle of Chanel no. 5 under her pillow. When times were lean, he would save his change throughout the year to make sure she never went without.
He will be truly missed by his family and many friends. Today, though, we celebrate his homecoming to his mansion of glory.
