Carol Scroggins Williams, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, left us to be with the Lord on Oct. 24, 2015 at the age of 82. Born on September 7, 1933 in Lorenzo, TX, she was the eldest daughter of Lawrence and Alta Lemon.
She married her high school sweetheart, Carlton W. Scroggins in 1950 and during their marriage of 34 years raised three children and was a special influence in the life of Carlton’s young brother, Stephen, and Carol’s youngest brother, Larry. She was widowed in 1984.
She graduated from Otero Jr. College (La Junta, CO), Washburn University (Topeka, KS) and Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS) and received degrees in Home Economics, Secondary Education and Business.
During her business career she served as Director of Consumer Affairs and Vice President of Fleming Foods Company. She was considered a pioneer in the field of Consumer Affairs and received numerous national awards for her contributions to that industry including the FMI Ethel Peterson Consumer Service Award and the Who’s Who Worldwide Award for Outstanding Achievement in her profession. During the Reagan Administration she was named to the White House Council on Consumer Affairs and later served the government as a member of the US Department of Agriculture Agribusiness Promotion Council for the Caribbean Basin. Upon her retirement, she founded her company, The Consumer Voice.
She enjoyed traveling the world and had a passion for music, reading and cooking. She especially enjoyed developing and sharing new recipes. An accomplished hostess, she enjoyed entertaining her family, friends and business associates.
She served on the Board of the Oklahoma Art Museum and was an active member of the Kirkpatrick Center in Oklahoma City. In addition, she generously supported many music organizations and other charities.
Her Christian faith and family were extremely important to her and she was dedicated to education and encouraging others to achieve their best in whatever they chose to do in life.
In 2002 she moved from OK to CO to be closer to family. In 2005 she married Don E. Williams, a long-time friend. During their ten years of marriage they enjoyed international traveling and spent cherished time together and with family.
She leaves behind her husband Don; her children Lorna (Doug) Caldwell, Carlton (Sawing) Scroggins, Debra Scroggins (Tom Huch); grandchildren Johnathon (Christy) Caldwell, Russ (Kristen) Caldwell, Christa Dickson (Lars Pearson),and David C. Dickson; great-grandchildren Allyson, Katelynn, Ryan, Philip, Rebekah and Daniel Caldwell; siblings Jerry Lemon, Nelda Norris and Larry Lemon as well as many other close relatives and friends.
Family and friends will honor her memory at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Lubbock, TX and burial will be in her family plot at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, TX in November.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or a favorite charity.
