Mrs. Chambers was born on September 9, 1933 in Bend, Oregon to Roy and Opal Cook and was raised in Sweet Home, Oregon where she graduated from high school in 1951. Mrs. Chambers attended San Jose Bible College in San Jose, California where she met Colorado Springs native, and her future husband, Clifford S. Chambers, who was attending San Jose State College. They married on March 21, 1953, moved to Colorado in March of 1954 and eventually settled in Security.
After substitute teaching in Widefield School District #3 and working as a teacher’s aid in the Home Economics Department at Watson Junior High School, Mrs. Chambers returned to college at, what was then known as, The University of Southern Colorado, and eventually earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minor in Home Economics at the University of Northern Colorado in December 1972. Mrs. Chambers taught Home Economics at Harrison High School and Carmel Middle School for several years. She earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling in 1980 from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS). Mrs. Chambers then began her career as a guidance counselor at Carmel where she worked until her retirement in May 1993.
Known as “Grandma Cookies” to some of her grandchildren, she loved to bake cookies with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she loved the many dogs who adopted her over the years, but most of all, she loved her family unconditionally – they always knew she would welcome them home with open arms.
Mrs. Chambers is survived by her three sons: Stephen and Randy of Security, Kevin of Castle Rock and a daughter, Carolyn Dunlap of Wesley Chapel, FL; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Chambers is preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, her parents, sisters Nina May and Louise, brothers Orval and Percy and a granddaughter, Kathryn Mable.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00, at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 South US 85/87, Fountain, CO 80817. Interment will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Chambers’ name may be sent to the Security Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, 400 Security Boulevard, Security, CO 80911.
