January 10, 1933 – January 6, 2021
Bill Morgan was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 10, 1933 at All Saints Hospital to William F. “Boss” Morgan and Margaret Robertson Morgan. He grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, on Irwin Street in Mistletoe Heights. He attended Lily B. Clayton Elementary School and McLean Junior High School, graduating from Paschal High School in January 1951. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce.
Bill joined the Naval Reserve when he was in high school and went on active duty in 1955 aboard the USS Vandivier Radar Picket Ship. He began his career in the corrugated box business in 1958 with Hoerner Box, Inc. and later owned and operated AmTex Packaging, Inc. until his passing on January 6, 2021. He was four days away from turning 88 when he went to be with the Lord.
Bill loved his church (Travis Avenue Baptist Church). There he accepted Christ as his Savior when he was seven years old. It was at “Camp Travis Church Camp” in 1950 that Bill met Jo Ann Peavler, his future bride. They were married on July 9, 1953, and celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Bill loved Sunday morning Bible Class of men and women he taught every Sunday. If you knew Bill, you knew he loved to sing. He always ended his Bible Class with the class singing a hymn. On December 13, his last Sunday to teach, Bill chose the hymn “Redeemed How I Love to Proclaim It. Redeemed, His child and forever I am.” He was a member of The PraiSingers, a Senior Adult Choir and the Sanctuary Choir at his church. His last opportunity to sing in the choir at his church was for the Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 13 and the choir rehearsal on Wednesday night, December 16.
Bill’s favorite pastimes were watching TCU football and playing golf with “his golfing buddie,” Ron Waters, Keith Lane, Holman Lee, Dale Spitzack, Bill Pearson, and Ray Taylor and others.
A devout husband and father, Bill dearly loved his wife, Jo Ann, and their children, Debora Lynn Morgan, William Craig Morgan, and Matthew David Morgan. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie and is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann, son Billy and his wife Debra Sue, and son Matt. In heaven, Bill joins his parents and his brother, Stephen Howard Morgan, who passed away in 2018. Bill is also survived by sister-in-law Janice Morgan, nephew Kirk Morgan, niece Beverly Smirnis and husband Steve, and cousins Vivian Margaret Harrell, Mary Jean Bowers, Josephine Armistead, Cici Griffith and Richard Perhamus.
