William Lee Byrd, 66, a certified rehabilitation counselor, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018, in Fort Worth. Bill was born March 22, 1952, to the late Theron and Lou Byrd in Fort Worth. Bill was a member of Troop 3 of the Boy Scouts of America, and was awarded his Eagle Scout in 1969. Bill was raised in the Polytechnic United Methodist Church in Fort Worth where he made lifelong friends.
Bill was a 1970 graduate of Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth. He attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado for two years. In 1974 he completed his Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Texas at Arlington. Then Bill attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas to receive his Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1979.
He worked for 15 years in the field of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. First at the Fort Worth State School as a Rehabilitation Counselor, and then in Johnson County as a small group home coordinator. Bill then worked for 15 years at Harbison Fischer Manufacturing Company of Crowley in Quality Control and Production.
Survivors: Wife of 44 years, Janice Byrd; daughters, Kerry Byrd of Fort Worth, Casey Harrison and husband, Joel, of North Richland Hills. Granddaughters, Emily Harrison and Katherine Harrison; grandson, Jonathan Harrison. Brothers, David Byrd and wife, Linda, of Burleson, and John Byrd and wife, Leslie, of Troy, Texas. There are a flock of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
William Byrd’s memorial service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. The service will be at Shannon Rose Hill (7301 E. Lancaster Avenue) in Fort Worth. There will be time following the service to visit with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, The Humane Society of North Texas or Polytechnic United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, Texas.
