William F. Burtner, 87, of Fort Worth, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, July 16, 2017. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 5709 Wedgwood Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76133. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of remembrance and refreshments following the service. Interment will be Monday, July 31 at DFW National Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
William F. Burtner was born June 3, 1930 in Kansas City, MO, the third and youngest child born to Ernest Yankee and Mildred Burtner. He spent his life serving country, God, and family. He served in the United States Army, Navy, and the Air Force and saw action in both the Korean War and Vietnam. After the war he worked in the Office of Personnel and retired from the United States Air Force May 31, 1975.
William married Shirley Fields in 1952. She preceded him in death just five years later. He married Mary Ann Beger September 28, 1957 in Kansas City, MO where they made their first home. William and Mary settled in the Fort Worth area in 1975.
Mr. Burtner was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, his sister, Juanita Vinyard and his brother, Roddy Meier.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Burtner, children: Carol Halley, Lisa Byrd, Laura Pavlock and Michael Burtner, grandchildren: Matthew Byrd, Erin Reddy, Jeffrey Pavlock, Ryan Halley, and Julie Vandergrifft, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
