William grew up in Houston and graduated from BC Elmore High School. He continued his education at Prairie View A&M University earning a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Master of Business Administration at Webster University. While in the Army, he became an Airborne Ranger, graduated from the Army War College and Command & General Staff College, and completed Air Assault, Advanced Field Artillery, Accident Investigation training. William was awarded numerous medals, ribbons, and badges for his dedicated service. He seized every opportunity to become the best he could be. William served honorably for 26 years retiring August 31, 1993.
After retiring from the US Army, William worked for the City of Fort Worth for 16 years, he then continued his career with the State of Texas. William’s commitment to duty and dedication to excellence was reflected in all areas of this life, including his role as husband, father, and grandfather. He was a mentor to many; helping and inspiring others when he could. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandsons and watching sporting events, especially the Dallas Cowboys! William was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
William is preceded in death by his father, Willie Armstrong; mother Mary Louise Armstrong; and Sister Annesine Armstrong.
William is survived by his wife Georgia, daughter Stefanie Chadwick (Keith), son, Steven Armstrong, grandsons Aaron Townsend, Tylin Armstrong, Terrell Armstrong, four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
