Werner Clyde Pilgrim of Fort Worth passed away December 11, 2017 at the age of 82. He was born in Sturdivant, Texas on September 25, 1935, to Amos and Lena Pilgrim and was the youngest of seven children. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Blackwell, on April 25, 1952, and they had a loving and strong marriage until his death, always remaining sweethearts. He was always a family man, loving his wife, children, and grandchildren with a tender heart.
Werner worked for 30 years for LTV and retired in 1993. He had several interests including woodworking and gardening. He grew a huge garden and he and Shirley gifted many friends with bags of delicious vegetables. Later their interest turned to flowers, and their backyard was the most beautiful garden of roses, poppies, and larkspur. He was a Master Gardener and gave tours at the Botanic Gardens in Fort Worth until his health began to fail.
He was a faithful member of the Handley Church of Christ since 1956, where he served as a deacon for 30 years and an elder for 21 years until his health no longer allowed him to serve. His faith and his service to God set a sure example for his family, and his happiest days were as each of them were baptized into Christ. His dearest wish was for all of his loved ones and friends to go to Heaven.
In addition to his wife, Werner is survived by his son Kevin and wife, Lisa; daughter Kim James and husband Johnny; 3 grandsons, Keith Pilgrim and wife Miranda, Carter James and wife Marla, Cameron Pilgrim and wife Nicole, and granddaughter Courtney Henson and husband Joel. He has 4 great-grandsons, Tyler, Andrew, and Brock James, and Bryce Henson.
He was our protector and hero, our playmate and friend, our rock. He was an example to all in his Christian walk and his work ethic. He loved to work, whether to earn a living or in the yard or shop. He noticed what needed to be done and did it then, a rare quality. He was a good friend. He had a twinkle in his eye, a ready smile, and big hugs. This good man was adored by his family, and will be missed forever. Thank you, Husband, Daddy, and Granddaddy for all you have meant to us. We will never forget you.
In lieu of flowers, Werner requested that donations be made to Christian Family Counseling. Checks should be made to Handley Church of Christ with “Christian Family Counseling” in the memo.
Job 1:8 –Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
