Bill was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Fort Worth. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater on a fleet mine sweeper for three years. Bill married Janie Nave in Seattle, Wash., on July 15, 1945. Following the war, they returned to Fort Worth, where he worked at the Ellison furniture store and studied interior design as they began to raise a family of three boys. In 1956 he opened Grimes-Allen Inc., which later became Grimes Design Studio on Fort Worth's west side, providing fine furniture and interior design services for 44 years.
Bill attended Meadowbrook United Methodist Church and was the Methodist Man of the Month in August 1959. In 1960, Bill was elected president of the Texas Chapter of the National Society of Interior Designers and was asked to serve on the Committee to provide interior design services for the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House. He was also a member of the Colonial Country Club's "Dirty Dozen" group of golfers.
He was predeceased by his parents, Barney Grimes and Mary Lawing Grimes; five brothers; and one sister.
Survivors: Wife, Janie; sons, David, Steve and Clayton; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
