Virgil Merrell Oakes

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Davis Memorial United Methodist Church, 5301 Davis Blvd, North Richland Hills, TX 76180 with burial to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth.

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Anita Oakes. Virgil proudly served for 5 ½ years in the Airforce. Following his military service he worked for Colonial Cafeterias as a manager for 37 ½ years and then worked for DFW Auto Auctions for 15 years. He enjoyed working, especially spending time in his garden growing beauty.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 65 years, Claretta Oakes; sons, Charles Ray Oakes & wife Rinni and Robert Lynn Oakes; grandchildren: Shannon Kristine Duke & husband Wilson, Austin Wylie Oakes and Meygan Dean and great-grandchildren: Sophee Dean, Grayson James Duke & Carson Woodrow Duke.
