Victor Wayne Dowell was born to the parentage of Willie Dell and Lola Mae Dowell in Dallas, Texas, on January 2, 1958. He is the 2nd eldest son out of 5 brothers (youngest brother, Elliott deceased).
During Victor’s formative years, he successfully attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, Albert Sidney Johnston Elementary, Oliver Wendell Holmes Junior High, and Roosevelt High School. He then attended college on “the Hill” at the historical, Prairie View A& M University, in Prairie View, Texas.
During his attendance at PV, he met and fell in love with his future wife, Barbara Carouthers in 1977. After an amazing whirlwind courtship, Victor and Barbara were married in 1982 and out of that union were born 3 children, Prince, Nikki, and Richard.
Victor had an affinity for working on cars, racing cars, and being gainfully employed. In high school, he was an avid race car driver. He loved what we used to call Hot rods. By the time he was 17 years old, he had owned and helped build two Race cars. He loved fixing mechanical things, from bicycles, mini bikes and eventually cars.
Victor also believed that a man should always have money in his pocket. You would rarely encounter him without money in his pockets, which he was always willing to share when necessary, even with strangers.
Victor had many career interests during his life, such as a press assembler tech for USA Today and the Plano Star. He then changed professions and attended Truck Driving School. After graduation, for many years he drove big rigs for various companies until he was able to become an owner operator. Dowell Logistics was his dream job because he was now the boss of his own company. He enjoyed this blessing immensely. The only complaint he had with that profession was that he could not attend church as often as he wanted.
Victor, being a loving family man with a gentle and caring heart, answered the call on his life and began to serve God with his whole heart in 2000. Through many struggles and trials, of which he gladly testified, he began to pursue and acknowledge God as his source and strength. He and the family joined Bethlehem COGIC in 2000, under the leadership of the late Pastor James David Lewis. He was appointed as Deacon by Pastor Lewis in 2005. Deacon Dowell later served faithfully as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, appointed under the leadership of the current Pastor, Superintendent Eric V. Boatner.
Deacon Victor was a great man of faith who loved and supported his ministry, his family, and his community without hesitation. He loved traveling, family, his wife, his mother, grandchildren, his church, his independence as an owner and operator, and especially, and unequivocally, he loved God.
Deacon Dowell was called home on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. He leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Dr. Barbara F. Dowell, Son, Prince Q. Carouthers, Daughter, Neidra L.E. Dowell and deceased Son, Richard W.E. Dowell. 3 grandchildren, Tristen Cook, Richard J. Carouthers, and Paris L.E. McCree. Mother, Lola Dowell-Jackson (Roosevelt). 3 brothers, Reger D. Dowell (Kim), Ronald D. Dowell (Lourie), and Barry Dowell (Veronica). And a host of Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and dear friends.
