In 1945 Tom enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Robinson. Soon after his discharge in 1947, Tom moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he married his first wife, Virginia, and had three children, Margaret, Becky and Charles. He worked for Vandervoort’s Dairy as a salesman.
In 1969, Tom married Audine Loftin, and became a bonus dad to Deborah, Brenda, Randall and Phyllis. Together with Audine, Tom ran Biff’s Café on Magnolia until they retired in 1994. Tom filled his retirement with hauling grandkids to-and-from school, walks around Benbrook Lake, maintaining an immaculately groomed yard, and the occasional trip to the casino with Audine.
Tom was not a man of many words, but he didn’t need words to show his family how much he loved them. He was never quick to anger, instead offering a chuckle and a solid piece of advice when something went wrong.
Tom was preceded in death by is parents, brother Elby Lofton, sister Pauline Horton, step-daughter Phyllis Beck and several dogs that were lucky enough to be loved by him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Audine Loftin; children Margaret (Charles) Conant, Becky (Shine) Carver, and Charles (Larry Cathart); 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grand children; and, 1 great-grandson.
Tom will be laid to rest on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 10:00am in the Chapel of Chimes at Laurel Land funeral home in Fort Worth, Texas.
