Terry was born January 20, 1952 in Canton Kansas to Frederick Charles Dielman and Hazel Lucille Dielman (Farrell). He attended Emporia State University, University of Cincinnati and completed his PhD. in statistics and management science from the University of Michigan. Terry began and ended his 35-year career at Texas Christian University where he was a Professor of Decision Sciences. He thoroughly enjoyed helping his students understand statistics and was always pleased when they told him that he made statistics relevant.
Terry was a kind and accepting person who put people at ease with his laid-back personality. Most people describe him as just a great guy. He loved sports (especially college – Go Big Blue!), reading and hanging out on his back patio with friends drinking wine. He had great compassion for animals, was an avid environmentalist, and was the first to help a friend in need. And, while he battled Parkinson’s Diseases for over 15 years, he was always moving forward and enjoying life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Ted Dielman. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Karen (Wertke); daughter, Kelly Marie Dielman-Layton and husband Colby; grandchildren, William and Rebekah. He is also survived by his cats, niece, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Memorials: Friends and family can donate to the following nonprofits in his memory: Best Friends Animal Society (Utah), Humane Society of North Texas (Ft. Worth), McPherson County Human Society (KS), or Tarrant Area Food Bank (Ft. Worth). A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at a future date.
