Sybil McCracken, 101, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away October 6, after several months of declining health. Sybil was born November 23, 1920 to James Austin and Mildred Langford. She married James L. McCracken in 1939 and moved to Terrell, Texas. They lived in several locations in beautiful east Texas until 1976 when they moved to Fort Worth.
Sybil was a life-long member of the Methodist Church and in Fort Worth was a member of Arborlawn United Methodist Church. For many years she served as Church Secretary for the Henderson First Methodist Church after which she became Office Manager for the Henderson ISD.
Sybil loved animals, especially cats and dogs, sports, especially football and baseball, gardening, traveling, and reading. She was a very a good cook (one interest her son did not inherit). Her family will especially remember her banana pudding, coconut cake and roast beef.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; infant son, Patrick Wayne McCracken and Juanita Wood, sister. She is survived by her son, Michael and wife, Sally, of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Donna McCracken, of Tyler, TX and great grandson, Carson Blackburn of Tyler.
The family would like to thank Dr. Allen Kelly for his excellent care of Sybil during the last 10 years and to Marti Parkinson and the staff with St. Gabriel's Hospice for their assistance and care for Sybil during her last days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sybil's name can be made to Arborlawn United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, or a charity of your choice.
A memorial service for Sybil will be held Friday, October 14, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas. Following the memorial service will be a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas.
