Mr. Roy Maurice Jenkins

Roy M. Jenkins was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. On January 5, 2010 after 86 blessed years; Roy has gone to his long awaited home in heaven to be forever with Jesus. Roy was born November 19, 1923 to Roy E. and Daisy Burnett Jenkins. He lived with older sister, Mildred; older brother, Harry; and older sister Eleanor during his youth in Smithfield, Texas. In 1941 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor Roy and his older brother, Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy to fight in WWII. He and Harry served on the USS Cuyama a fuel tanker in the North and South Pacific theaters. Roy worked to feed all the men aboard and eventually became the head cook. He was lovingly nicknamed "Cookie". On Christmas leave in 1944, Roy Jenkins met Shirley Patricia Homm in Seattle, Washington. On January 22, 1945 twenty-two days later he married Shirley, the love of his life. The next day after the wedding, the newlyweds left for San Diego, California where Roy was stationed until his honorable discharge in 1946. In 1946 Roy and Shirley returned to Ft Worth. Roy and his brother, Harry took over the family business, Ft. Worth Blueprint Company. Later, the business was sold and Roy worked for ITEK and sold graphic arts equipment for 20 years.Roy and Shirley raised their family, had other business endeavors and in latter years traveled. Roy was always involved in many services for the church. Roy M, Jenkins is survived in this life by his wife of 64 years, Shirley, as well as his oldest son, Bill and wife Pat, his daughter Dana and husband Randy Word, his youngest son Mark and wife Terri Jenkins. In addition, Roy's grandchildren are Matthew and Nancy Jenkins, Chris and Brandy Word, Kelly Word and Michael Jenkins. Roy's three great-grandchildren are, Jackson Word, Kennedy Jenkins, Grace Jenkins and a new Word grandchild on the way. Roy's nieces are Dorothy Mize and Linda and Charles Stewart. Roy's nephews are J.B. Johnson, Michael and Barbara Deaton.Arrangements under the direction of Shannon Rufe Snow Drive Funeral Chapel, Fort Worth, TX.
