Family will receive friends during visitation on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Home, 6001 Rufe Snow Dr., Fort Worth, Texas 76148. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 10:30a.m. with interment to follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 12:30.
Louis, as he was most often known, was born to Robert and Dorothy Thurman in Levelland, Texas. He was one of youngest of 9 children. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was a graduate of Texas Tech, where he studied Petroleum Engineering, and made that a lifelong career in the oil fields of West Texas. He met his sweetheart, Modelle at a Sunday School Valentine's Day function. They married on August 28, 1950 and started a family. They raised three sons and a daughter. He was a supportive father, and always was involved in all of his children's' activities. Later in life, he very much enjoyed spending time with his 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was a member of North Fort Worth Baptist Church. A beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend will be dearly missed by those blessed to have shared in his life journey. He is now reunited with his loving wife of 54 years, Modelle Thurman. He is also preceded by his son, Larry Thurman, parents, and siblings.
Left to cherish Louis' memory are his children, Roger Thurman, and wife, Anita, Eddy Thurman and wife, Kelli, Christi Dunn and husband, Terry; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
