Rebecca was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 22, 1967. She was the second child of Virginia Mae and the Rev. Neal Edward Smith. Her siblings are Neal Edward Jr. of Williamsport, Pa., and Mary Elizabeth Schultz of North Ridgeville, Ohio.
Rebecca was a graduate of Lanakila Baptist High School, Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Liberty University. She was employed as an environmental, health and safety analyst with XTO Energy in Fort Worth.
In 1987, she met Gary at the Sub-base Chapel on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They were married on Aug. 25, 1990. Rebecca spent the majority of her time as a teenager on the beaches of Hawaii with her siblings. She always had a special place in her heart for Hawaii and dreamed of living on the islands with her husband and children someday. She had a love for fashion; she earned a cosmetology degree and became a hair stylist. Rebecca also had a big heart for all of God's creatures. She opened her arms and home to dogs and cats as well as wild birds, snakes, rabbits, prairie dogs, horses and pet rats.
Rebecca was an independent and free-spirited person who enjoyed baking, painting, and creating. Her relationship with God was evident in her selfless love for all of His creation, whether it be man or beast. She believed her children were her greatest and proudest accomplishment. Her friends and family will remember her grace, spiritual strength, beauty (inside and out), and unconditional love.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her son, Seth.
Survivors: She is survived by her husband, Gary' her stepson, Derrick; her children, Michal, Wesley and Claire; and two grandchildren.
