A graduate of Mountain Home High School in 1964, Ray furthered his education by studying Business at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Texas at Arlington. His academic achievements were just the beginning of a career marked by dedication and excellence.
Ray's professional journey was as vast as it was impactful. In 1969, he joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Hickam AFB Hawaii. His rank of Chief Master Sergeant coupled with his outstanding mechanical acumen resulted in his personal charge of the Colonel's plane. Following four years of military service, Ray joined the ranks of Vought Aerospace as a Program Analyst and retired after 39 years.
In 1990, Ray married the love of his life, Lynn Austin, and together, they built a life filled with love and laughter. Ray was a devoted father to Shonda Airehart and Deanne Arnath and an adoring grandfather to Devin, Julianne, William, and Taylor.
Ray's life was one of active engagement with the world around him. He was an outdoor enthusiast, often found hunting, fishing, or playing softball. Indoors, he was an avid gun collector, fiercely competitive card player, and self-reliant survivalist. Gatherings were legendary, with his homemade cheese dip and deviled eggs being the highlight of many family events. Ray also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams with family and friends and instilled a love of sports in his grandchildren.
Ray was predeceased by his parents and his brother Steve. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife Lynn; his children Shonda and Deanne; his adored grandchildren Devin, Julianne, William, and Taylor; and a close-knit family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
A service to honor and celebrate Ray's life will be held on April 5, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Shannon Ruth Snow Funeral Chapel, 6001 Rufe Snow Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76148.
Ray will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. The warmth, wisdom, and joy he brought to every gathering will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
