Following his graduation from Polytechnic High School and his service in the U.S. Navy , R.E. received Bachelor’s degrees from Texas Wesleyan University in 1948 and Texas Christian University in 1949.
R.E. married Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Garnett in 1947. Their 74th wedding anniversary will be this coming Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2021.
In 1956, R.E. became a Certified Public Accountant, holding Texas license 3808 which he proudly maintained for 63 years. He enjoyed a long career in public accounting, including his role as Senior Partner in the public accounting firm of Jones and Klenzendorf. His career in accounting was made even more fulfilling by deep and long-standing personal client relationships.
Ranching was a special interest for R.E. who spent weekends with Betty raising cattle in Jack and Clay Counties. An avid sports fan, R.E. enjoyed all athletics at TCU, where he and Betty were football season ticket holders for over 60 years.
R.E. was preceded in death by his parents, Rayble and Eva Jones Sr., his brother Jim Jones and his wife Mary Helen, and his sister Ray Stahala and her husband Bob. He is survived by his wife, Anna E. “Betty” Jones; daughters Valerie and her husband Don Packham, and Dianna and her husband David Walta; grandchildren Jimmy Walta and his wife Katie, Meredith Packham, Stephen Walta and Rush Packham; and two great grandchildren, Samuel and Eleanor Walta.
