away on September 2nd, 2023, at the age of 86, in Burleson, Texas.
Ray was born to Rue Pete Kelley and Annie Ruth Jones of Stephenville, Texas. Ray graduated
from Stephenville High School in 1955, and later joined the United States Army and served as a
paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Growing up, Ray enjoyed playing sports and spending time
with his closest friends, Richard Fagan, Lyn Banowsky, and Tubba Roberson.
Ray married Sue Evelyn Wood of Stephenville, Texas in 1958. Together they built a beautiful life
and settled in Fort Worth, Texas. Ray proudly served on the Fort Worth Fire Department for 27
years and retired in 1991. He loved being a fireman.
After retiring from the FWFD, Ray spent an additional 20 years serving the Everman
Independent School District as a school bus driver. He enjoyed brightening students' day with a
smile or a joke. Ray and Sue owned “Kelley’s Flowers”, in Everman, Texas from 1991 to 2001.
She made beautiful flower arrangements and he delivered them with a smile.
He always had a joke or a lesson for anyone he encountered and he will be sorely missed by
many!
Ray was survived by his wife, Sue Kelley, his three sons, Paul Kelley and wife Wandi Kelley,
Brent Kelley and wife Carrie Kelley, Mike Kelley and wife DeeDee Kelley, sister Kathy
Picklesimer and husband Harold Picklesimer, sister Kim Dyer, grandchildren Miranda Barnett
and husband Mike Barnett, Cody Kelley and wife Kelsey Kelley, SueEllen McCoy and husband
Astin McCoy, Abigail Kelley and Jack Kelley, Brady Swink, and great grandchildren, Brycen and
Avery Barnett.
Ray was proceeded in death by his parents Rue Pete Kelley and Annie Ruth Jones, and his
brother Jim Kelley
