Celebration of Life: a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson, OK. Visitation: 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel. Burial: Otis will be laid to rest next to his wife, Joan in Hewitt Cemetery, Wilson, Oklahoma.
Memorial: In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Luke UMC Grounds & Beautification Fund.
Otis was born October 24, 1929 in Duncan, OK to Hurshell Lee and Ethel Bell Thomas, the oldest son in a family of 9. Raised in the oilfields of Dillard, OK he attended Wilson schools. It was there he met and later married his sweetheart Joan Lewis. Working in the oilfields, packing houses, and elevator trade across Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas.
Otis and Joan settled in Haltom City where they joined St. Luke United Methodist Church, becoming life long members of the Emmanuel Sunday School Class. He was a pioneer in providing home and transportation needs for the physically disabled, founding Custom Home Elevator Co & Lift-Aids of TX., that remain family owned and operated by his son-in-law Wes Jones and Connie Stauffer.
There were many hobbies and projects throughout his life, but he passion for woodcarving endured to the end. Otis lived his life to the very fullest, overcoming life threatening health crisis for decades. This world will never be the same without him in it! All who knew and loved him will forever be sharing O.T. stories throughout our own lives!
Otis is preceded in death by wife, Joan in 2006 and son, Ronnie in 2013.
Survivors: daughter, Jackie Wommack and husband, Gary of Azle, daughter, Janet Jones and husband, Wes of Richland Hills;sister, Martha Hall and husband, Gerald of OK; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
