Born to Otis Luther Barton and Rittie Oretha Meyers on September 18, 1959, he was a proud graduate of Crowley High School. His career was marked by dedication and excellence throughout his 45-year tenure with Lockheed Martin, where he worked on numerous fighter jets and developed a second family with his many cherished coworkers.
in 1988, Greg married the love of his life, Bobbie Barton. Together, they built and maintained a family and a life filled with love, laughter, and excitement. Greg was a devoted husband and Dad to Belinda and Randy Whitaker, Brandi Barton, Jimmy and Andi Wheeler, Kathy and Easton Wilkin, Hailey Barton, and Gauge Blevins. Greg's life was one of active engagement with the world around him. He was an outdoor enthusiast, often found fishing and camping at the lake or in Galveston. He enjoyed grilling and watching the Cowboys game on Sundays with family and friends. He was always the highlight of any gathering or campsite. Greg was also a respected mentor, guiding numerous young colleagues in their careers. He instilled a love of the outdoors in his children and grandchildren.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Luther Barton and Rittie Oretha Meyers; his siblings, Wanda and Carl Morrow, Eudine and Richard Lay, Brenda and Don Robinson, and Bob Godby.
Greg’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Bobbie Barton; his sister-in-law, Glenda Godbey; his children, Belinda and Randy Whitaker, Brandi Barton, Jimmy and Andi Wheeler, Kathy and Easton Wilkin, Hailey Barton, and Gauge Blevins; his adored grandchildren, Zane Ellis, Dusty Ellis, Savannah Whitaker, Tristyn Whitaker, Steven and Madeline Wheeler, Cole Vanwey, Kaylie Wilken, Grace Wilkin, Jazz Blevins, Jace Blevins, Joey and Ashley Thomason, Dalton and destiny Thomason, Lenee and Fredy Pacheco, and Ryan Whitaker; his beloved great-grandchildren, Ryan Wheeler, Sutton Wheeler, Dean Blevins, Dalton Thomason Jr., Danny Thomason, Angeline Whitaker, Olivia Pacheco, Aubriella Pacheco, and Fredy Emiliano Pacheco; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a wide circle of cherished friends and colleagues.
A service to honor Greg’s life will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Greg will be laid to rest at Laurel Land Memorial Park, with a reception to follow for close friends and family in the Laurel Land Chapel
Serving as pallbearers are David Ledesma, Ray Magallon, Zane Ellis, Dusty Ellis, Cedric Jefferson and Paul Fisher.
Reflecting on Greg’s life during the service will be Pastor James Ater and Greg’s longtime friend and colleague, David Ledesma.
Greg Barton will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and colleague. His warmth, wisdom, and the joy he brought to every gathering will be cherished and deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
