A Celebration of Life for Otila will be held Monday, March 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Heritage of Faith Christian Center, 10350 Old Cleburne Crowley Jct Rd, Crowley, Texas 76036, with Pastor Justin Bridges officiating. Burial to follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Rd, Fort Worth, Texas 76134.
Otila (also known as “Tillie”, “Tila”, “Tia”, “Mom”, “Grandma”, “Manita” and the famous “He-He”) was born on February 15, 1934 in Hargil, TX, to Mariano and Adelina Lopez. Her early years were spent working as a field laborer before marrying the love of her life, Jose Refugio Vasquez on July 19, 1952 in Lansing, IL. She then dedicated her life to her family. As her children grew she took a job to help with the family finances, at K-Mart (aka “K-Mark”) for four years. There she was known for her famous blue-light announcements. She also worked for Fort Worth ISD for two years.
Otila was a faithful member of “Templo Juan 3:16” church for over 40 years as a dedicated follower of Christ. In 2018, she joined “Semilla de Esperanza Church” with Sarita Esquivel serving as Pastor, where she remained a member until her passing.
Otila is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jose Refugio Vasquez. Her parents Mariano and Adelina Lopez, her sister Orfelina Villarreal, her brother Ramiro Lopez, her twin brother Ricardo Lopez, her infant brother Mariano Lopez Jr, her infant sister Hilda Lopez, her sister, Cristela Lopez, and her brother Mario Lopez.
Otila is survived by her daughter Tillie Galdeen (George), son Ralph (Roberta), daughter Elizabeth Salazar (the late Martin), daughter Sylvia Monsivais (Mario), son Don Vasquez (Charlene), and son Darin Vasquez, Sister Adelina Ramirez, as well as thirteen (13) Grandchildren, twenty-three (23) Great-grandchildren, and last year she was thrilled to welcome her first Great, Great Grandchild.
Pallbearers will be David Vasquez, Ralph Vasquez Jr., Mario Monsivais Jr., Tim Fails, Darin Vasquez Jr., Rachel Currin, and Jeremy Salazar. Honorary Pallbearers are Sylvia Andress, Melissa Amaro, Elizabeth Monsivais, Diana Salas, Makenzi Borchardt, and Alicia Underwood.
The family of Otila wish to extend their sincere thanks to family and friends for their support, friendship and kindness over the years. A special thanks, to the Esquivel Family for the special care shown to Otila and Jose over the years as kind neighbors and friends.
