Nancy Murdock Denton

Nancy Murdock Denton, age 88, was born July 21, 1931 and passed away May 4, 2020. She grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi, where she enjoyed life on the beach with her parents and two sisters. She loved swimming, crabbing and fishing there. She moved to El Paso, Texas with her family while in high school, as the climate was better for her father's health. She graduated 1949 from Austin High School, and was unaware that her future husband had graduated from there in 1948.

After high school, she got a job with El Paso Natural Gas Company, and was the secretary for a group of engineers. Eddie Koons, one of the engineers, was related to my Dad's family, and introduced Mom and Dad in April 1955. They fell in love, and were married 5 days before Christmas, December 20, 1955. They honeymooned in Ruidoso, New Mexico, which became a favorite vacation spot for our family through the years.

Mom and Dad moved to Austin Texas while Dad attended the University of Texas, Austin, where he received his architectural degree. In the years ahead, they had three children, Julie, Larry, and Jack. Around 1970, the family settled in DeSoto, Texas, in a home Dad designed. This home became the scene for many fun times, as we children grew into adults. Mom was totally devoted to the family, and didn't work outside the home until Julie and Larry were in high school. She went to college then, and became a certified medical secretary, and worked for three lung specialists at Baylor hospital for 23 years. She loved her job, and the family was very proud of her accomplishment. The hospital gave her an elegant retirement party, with many doctors, friends and family attending, to thank her for her years of service.

She was a great cook, loved to travel, go camping, hiking, skiing, and especially loved when all the extended family could join us. Her sisters, and their families, and Grandparents from both sides, had many fun family gatherings. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. Everyone loved her cheery personality. She was also dedicated to the Lord, and her church. She taught Sunday school to elementary children, and was also a long time member of an adult class, with Dad, at First United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas, where the whole family attended. We began losing mother in her later years, to Alzheimers disease, slowly at first. Even in her last days though, she knew our Dad, and would always give him a big smile. At times she could say "I love you". He visited her in the nursing home almost every day, and sometimes twice a day, to help care for her and feed her. Married for 64 years, their love shone through in the toughest of times. Jack and Melissa have also been a great help to Mom and Dad, as they live close.

Nancy Denton is survived by her loving Husband of 64 years, Jack Leonard Denton; Children and (Spouses); Julie Marvin Rawls (Ray Rawls), Larry Denton (Reta Denton), Jack Denton (Melissa Denton); 6 Grandchildren and (Spouses); Blake Marvin (Jenny Marvin), Christa Marvin Close (Bryan Close), Taryn Denton, Lauren Denton, Jonathan Denton, Megan Denton; 1 Great Grandson; Ethan Close and 2 sisters; Sue Deitz and Becky Murdock Johnson.

We will all miss Mom until we see her again. She is smiling down on us.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, May 29, 2020 at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel, 6001 Rufe Snow Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76148.

Memorial donations may be made in Nancy's name to either the First United Methodist Church of Dallas or Alzheimer's Association - North Central Texas Chapter.
