Anita was born in Houston, Tx on October 3, 1915 to Foster Bennett and Estie Mae Shepherd.
When Anita was 2 years old, she and her family moved to Fort Worth, where she lived for over 90 years.
As a child, Anita attended First Baptist Church, Fort Worth, where she accepted the salvation of Jesus and began her journey of Faith. Anita graduated from Central High School (now Paschal High School) in 1933 and attended Brantley Draughon Business College. On November 16,1935 she married the love of her life, Nolan Keever Read.
They joined Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in 1942 where Anita taught for 30 years in the primary department (children’s ministry), influencing numerous future pastors, missionaries, teachers, and other believers. Shortly after her husband’s passing in 1956, she began a 24 year career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, ultimately retiring in 1980. She continued to faithfully serve her church, family, community, friends and neighbors.
Anita is preceded in death by her husband Nolan Keever Read and son Nolan Keever Read Jr., her parents Foster Bennett and Estie Mae Shepherd, her brothers David Tupper Shepherd and wife Dolly, Alvin Clay Shepherd and wife Irene, sisters Dorothy Rigney and husband Clifford, Lillian Elsie Nelson and husband Paul.
She is survived by her son Glenn Arthur Read and wife Joy, her daughter-in-law Esther Bonilla Read, Grandchildren Maria Fisher and husband Mark, Nolan Read and wife Cynthia, Charles Read and wife Kseniya, S. Matt Read and wife Cara Bean, Glenda Hsiao and husband Victor, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand and great grand nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
A Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Friday, February 24th, 2023 at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel with a Funeral Service at 11am. Burial to follow Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Pecan Park, Arlington for their special care for Anita over the past 11 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex.
