Modell McKay, of Ft. Worth, went home to the Lord on January 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. A caring and deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she was born on August 12, 1928 to Oather and Mary Farmer. Growing up on her parents’ farm in Morgan, Texas, influenced her in many ways. She was a woman of great courage and moral character. She understood the value of hard work, perseverance, and demonstrated an unwavering Christian faith. Our family is truly blessed that she took the time to instill these values in each of us.
On May 27, 1977 she married the love of her life, Hugh D. McKay, Jr. They enjoyed over forty years of life together and one was rarely seen without the other. While Hugh and Modell were happiest at home celebrating any occasion surrounded by family and friends that often included large lovingly-prepared home-cooked meals, they also greatly enjoyed traveling the world together. They visited many countries on five different continents and enjoyed sharing memories of their adventures over the years. In addition to traveling, Modell enjoyed serving the Ft. Worth community. She served as President of the Ft. Worth Founders Lions Club where her leadership greatly benefitted the visually impaired. She was a member of the Military Order of the World Wars and she embraced its motto of “It is nobler to serve than to be served.” Modell was a selfless woman with a contagious laugh that endeared her to everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her former spouse, brother, sisters, son, daughter, and grandson: William Melton, Sr., Woodrow Melton, Earl Dean Farmer, Dorothy Lee Wightman, Ruth Bussell, Floy Wilma Burns, Beryl Sharp, and Richard Sharp. In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children: Ellen McKinney (Carey), William Melton (Nancy), Denise Griffin (Randy), Charles Melton (Tricia), Dixon McKay (Melodee), and Gary Melton (Janet).
