Mildred Louise Brown passed away peacefully in her home May 18, 2018. Celebration of her life will be Saturday, May 26, 2018, at University United Methodist Church at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home on Crowley Road.
Mildred, and her twin, Margaret, were born in Salado, Texas July 31, 1923, to J. H. and Pearl Norwood. After graduating from Salado High School in 1941, she attended cosmetology school in San Antonio. It was in San Antonio that she met Eddie, her true love. They married in June of 1942 in a double ceremony with her twin sister, Margaret, and E. C. Purgahn. After Eddie returned from World War II, Mildred became a dedicated housewife and mother. Eddie’s career took them from Mobile, Alabama to Killeen, Texas, Abilene, Texas, Sedalia, Missouri and then to Fort Worth in 1963--Their home for 55 years.
Mildred and Eddie were long-time members of University United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School with her good friend Barney Etter for several years. She was a lifetime member of United Methodist Women, leading and hosting many circle meetings in her home. She also volunteered for over 30 years for Meals on Wheels and at Harris Hospital, delivering flowers with a smile. First and foremost, she was involved in her children’s activities and was an avid supporter of whatever was important to them.
By keeping the Norwood home in Salado, Mildred and Eddie provided a place for many reunions that have brought the extended family together. Nieces and nephews affectionately refer to her as “Pee Wee”.
Hosting family holidays and celebrations was a joy for her. She had a caring heart and a giving spirit, always putting others first. Mildred
dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the best “Mimi” ever!!!
