Michael Judson Funk

Michael Judson Funk, 71, of Fort Worth, Texas died February 6, 2018 at the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance in Fort Worth, TX. Michael was born August 14, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Marion (Gene) and Evelyn Funk. He graduated high school and joined the Navy. He served from January 3, 1966 to January 2, 1974. Michael attended college in California and became a minister. Following that Michael moved to Albuquerque New Mexico where he became a police officer for the University of New Mexico. Michael married Lisa Dawn Ligon on January 6, 1983. In November of 1984 they moved to Texas. Here Michael went to work for the DFW Airport where he was a police officer, fireman, paramedic, and dispatcher. Michael retired from the airport in January of 2012.

Michael was a man of faith, integrity and pride. Being a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend was his greatest accomplishment. He was proud to have served his country in the Navy and being able to minister to the people of his church, but the love and pride he felt when he became part of the DFW Airport family could not be measured. Michael admired and cherished every person he worked with. The stories he told and memories he shared of his adventures in his life of laughter, sadness, gratitude, and comradery filled his days.

Michael is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lisa Funk; his children, Michael James Funk, Amanda Joy Rodeen (Robert), Michael Steven Funk (Michelle), Teena Short and Sean Funk (Lynn); grandchildren, Victoria Funk, Abigail Funk, Laura Funk, Madison Rodeen, Michael Short, Andrew Garcia, Brandon Funk, Kyrsten Funk, Caitlyn Funk, Devin Funk, and aunts/uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his brother, Donald Funk.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth. The funeral will follow the memorial service starting at 1:15 p.m. on February 21, 2018 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
