Maxine attended Ned E. Williams in Longview from elementary through her senior year of high school.
She was a military wife to Dutreal Laforest Smith Jr. They were married for 43 years at the time of his passing in 2005.
She always had an entrepreneurial spirit that included a janitorial service and being a caretaker for others.
Maxine worked as a school crossing guard at the same corner for over 30 years. She was affectionately known as the neighborhood mom because she kept a watchful eye on all the kids. Over the years she developed and maintained many relationships including seeing the “kids” grow into adults and in later years crossed their kids. She also had the joy of crossing her grandson, Aaron for four school years as he would spend after school being spoiled by Meme and Papa.
She was known and loved by many because you immediately became a “son” or “daughter” to her from the moment you met. Due to her popularity in the neighborhood, she was nicknamed the mama of the Eastwood Originals. She was also known as Meme, Aunt Mac, Ms. Maxine and Max.
Maxine loved to win your heart over with her wonderful cooking and baking. She would make more than enough food to serve an army. She loved to entertain and that included those invited and those that stopped by unexpectedly. She was loud and would say things to get a reaction whether laughter or surprise. You most definitely knew when she entered a room. She loved giving and receiving attention.
She was a spiritual guidance leader of the Fort Worth Prayer Warrior team since 1996. She opened her home weekly for prayer to the sick, lame and those that needed prayer. She also hosted a Prayer Warrior revival years back in Alexandria, Louisiana. She loved the Lord and would pray for anyone on the spot including strangers.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Desmond Smith in 2008; parents, Henry and Ollie Sanders; sister, Ruby Stein Sanders-Jones; brother, Frank Sanders; sister-in-law, Dollie Macklin; brother-in-law, Marques L. Smith, Sr.; niece, Mishelle Jones Montgomery; nephew, Ervin Macklin
Maxine leaves to cherish her loving memories, son, Dutreal Smith III; grandsons, Aaron Smith and Denymh Smith; special daughter, Robyn Minor Correa; sister-in-law, Frances Jackson; nieces, Sandra Jones (Willie), April Hobbs, Gwen Macklin, Nysha Smith; nephews, Tyrone Macklin, Anthony Macklin, Trey Jackson, Marques Smith, Jr.; as well as a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Roy Jean Sanders, Sis. Sally Hall, Marcus and Dorlinda Jackson, and special “son”, Richard Ward and the many other friends that were a blessing throughout her life.
