Maxine Jones Morgan (nee Peterson) passed away on Friday, May 11, at the age of 97. Born in Shreveport, LA on March 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Hattie Peterson of Fort Worth. She will be greatly missed by her family that survives. Maxine was a beautiful lady and a formidable force to be reckoned with while still exhibiting much love for her family. She was a “stay at home” mom in the 1940’s and 50’s who was a great cook and kept an immaculate house. Upon the untimely death of her first husband, Gordon Jones in 1965, she went to work at Neiman Marcus in cosmetics. Then an opportunity came along that led her on a path as a cosmetic representative for Charles of the Ritz and later Polly Bergen. She traveled 47 weeks a year across the United States. She loved the travel and the job for you could not find a better shopper to have the pleasure of working in countless big department stores of the day. She loved good shoes, perfume, and high fashion. Maxine was an avid reader and especially liked fashion and home décor magazines. She had a flair for interior decorating, and her home reflected that talent.
Maxine grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Paschal High in 1936. She married Gordon Jones in 1941 and stayed in Fort Worth while he fought for our country in Germany in World War II. Life later took them to the oil patch of Oklahoma and then to Tripoli, Libya North Africa. Their son, Mike, was born in 1943 and daughter, Cathy, in 1947. She lost her beloved Gordon in 1965 while he was working in Tripoli. In 1973, she married William (Bill) Morgan in Fort Worth. Their life later took them to New York City where Bill was the Director of the Eastern Region for the FAA.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Michael Jones and wife Janet of San Jose, CA; daughter, Cathy Newman and husband C.J. of Plano; granddaughter, Leslie Hornberger and husband Brad of Dallas; great grandchildren Nash and McKenna Hornberger and Jacob Newman. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Jones, second husband William Morgan, and precious grandson Steven Newman.
A graveside service will be held at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth on Thursday May 17, 2018 at 3 PM. The family wants to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. Charles Levin and staff for their loving support and care throughout the years of her life.
