Mattie Louise Johnson, born Mattie Caldwell, was born on February 25, 1946, in Foreman, Arkansas, to L.C. & Donia Caldwell. She was the middle child among 11 siblings. Mattie married Walter B. Johnson, her lifelong friend, and they raised five wonderful children together during their 30-year marriage.
Throughout her career spanning over three decades, Mattie worked in transportation, starting in Fort Worth ISD and retiring from Birdville ISD. She had a remarkable talent for connecting with at-risk youth, providing them with love and support to overcome life's challenges and be their best selves.
Cooking was one of Mattie's passions; she enjoyed discovering new recipes on TikTok and delighting her guests with her culinary creations. A faithful servant of God and a devoted member of Berea Bible Fellowship, Mattie will be remembered by James Caldwell (brother) and Donna Caldwell-Bell (sister) and her children Tonza Simon, Jeanette Greenwood (Johnnie), Gwen Jones (Donte), Kimberly Mitchell (Carlos), and Howard B. Johnson, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives.
