Mary was born April 12, 1923 in Cleburne, Texas to John and Mary Carter. Mary graduated as salutatorian of the 1941 class of the Rio Vista High School in Rio Vista, Texas. She married Howell E. Stuart in Rio Vista on August 15, 1953. Mary retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1984 after 27 years of service at the Rio Vista Texas Post Office. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at First Baptist Church of Rio Vista and College Heights Baptist Church in Cleburne. Mary and Howell moved to Saginaw, Texas in 1991. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Saginaw. Mary was very active in the Saginaw community as a member of the Senior Citizen's Center as a board member and the Saginaw Library Boosters, also served as a board member.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Howell, her parents, sisters, Nettie Bridges, Ruby Rhoades, Frances Martin, and her brother, John Bethel Cater.
She is survived by her sons, Paul (P.J.) Stuart and wife Penny of Saginaw and Phil Stuart of League City, grandchildren Lisa Hall of Fort Worth and Daniel Stuart of Saginaw and great-grandchildren Haley, Hunter, Braedan and Riley. Mary is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
